Then I came across Penelope, the same author & illustrator. Again really lovely, dinstinctive illustations and now showing as an animation on Ceebies.

The misadventures of Gaspard and Lisa
The Misadventures of Gaspard and Lisa By Anne Gutman & Georg Hallensleben are gorgeous childrens books. I started buying them in various languages, (depending on where I was in the world) for my son when I was travelling with work. Really quirky, naive, painted illustrations.
