Blogging with a conscience

I struggle with my conscience quite a lot.  I'm not sure if it is being a mum to small children or the current economic/political climate or both!  I have spoken about this previously, it just seems futile to blog about clothing and consuming when so many people are struggling.  I have put off writing about so many products because the price tag is quite frankly vulgar, especially for childrenswear, therefore, I have been trying to bring you economical/recycling projects that make new of something old.  It's not exactly a revolution, but it is a start in the right direction!

So this weekend is Glastonbury (A huge music festival here in Glastonbury, England) and with it comes its own fashion style.....generally a nod to the bohemian.  I had a dress I no longer wore, so I made a playsuit out of it for Fleur.  I basically crossed the front, took a bit out of the back, crossed over the straps and created a pair of shorts out of the skirt....teamed it up with beads, wellies, a headband and hey presto!  Festival Chic!

What do you think?  How do you feel?  Do you sometimes think you should use your creativity for a more worthwhile cause?  I'd love to hear from you.

Making something out of nothing!

Finally, I have managed to do another little diy project for you!  It is one that I have had in mind for sometime and it is a great one to do with the children as it is so simple.  It is again down the route of recycling and upcycling, creating something new out of something that no longer has a use.  Follow the photographic steps and create your own little softie.  I'd love to know how you got on.

Sweetheart Knits

I am lucky enough to have a super talented auntie that can knit me most things, but many people do not have that option...in step Sweetheart Knits.  A group of grannies that hand knit a range of baby to adult garments and toys.   Led by Cath, who set the company up hoping to promote the end disposable clothing by showing us products that have been created with love and care.  They believe that garments should then be passed on to others to enjoy or pulled apart to make something else.  Each item comes wrapped in brown paper and tied with twine...just some of my favourite things!  Talking of which I love these little skull 'n' crossbone booties, I love the colours and would be a great little present for any baby and the loopy bolero is just so gorgeous, I had many a loopy knit coat when I was a child.  It is a real 70's style and would look great with a boho inspired summer outfit.  See the rest of what the knitters have to offer here

It is a really lovely little find with a great message, well done ladies! (All Rights & Images Reserved to Sweetheart Knits)

Supayana

For me, the power of Pinterest is that you get to discover new and exciting products that you just wouldn't see normally.  Today I came across a great photograph that instantly made me what to discover more.....this took me to the Etsy shop Supayana.  Designed by Yana Gorbulsky in Quebec Canada with a clear focus on vintage, recycled fabrics and local sourcing.  There is an air of 'bohemia' about the garments, with easy styling and comfy fabrics.  I love the originality of these garments, with their bright prints and illustrated 'cut&sew' panels.  See more of the range here at Etsy and for more background information see the website here
