BOOkidswear

I have been a little bit quiet of late, the usual disillusion mixed with the constant nagging of 'what am I going to do now!!!'  Sprinkled with lots of other projects, but then something always grabs me and I am compelled to share. BOO by BOOkidswear is the most innovative girlswear I have seen for sometime.  Really quirky, with geometric, graphic detailing and detachable adornments such as baby animals.  I love the photography and the beautifully illustrated backdrops.  Plus a great use of colour.

Unfortunately, I cannot find out much about this label other than it is based in Croatia and I think the little girl in the photos is the designers daughter.  Hopefully, I will be able to find out more information and bring it to you.  But for now, check out her Etsy Store and Pinterest boards.....I think you will agree, it is a real find.  Thank you Bookidswear for restoring my faith!

DIY Halloween Part 1...The Invitation

We are all a little guilty of going over board with parties and although I don't feel pressured that my parties have to be amazing, I do love lots of decorations!  I just love to make things, but I can see that this is just another 'thing' we have in this modern world of ours.  By trying to make everything look perfect and impressive we have lost sight of the originally brief.....to celebrate something or someone.

Now when I was a child parties were so simple, we would do the hokey cokey, oranges & lemons and some crazy game where you had to put on lots of adult clothes and then try to cut up chocolate with a knife and fork!  I think this simplicity has been lost  and I am going to bring it back!  Well, to my own children, at least.

Lets start with Halloween.  I have already posted a great party package (here) but here is a great idea that you can do easily, cheaply and involve the children.  Get your children to draw lots of spooky characters, houses etc  Kids drawings are so cool, they just have great imaginations and would give any quirky illustrators a run for their money!  I then drew around them with a fine liner pen, not changing the original drawing just making it clearer for the scanner.

I then cut out all the drawings and scanned them into Photoshop, where I created an invitation. However, you do not need to do this.  You can cut out the characters and then place them on a piece of paper, building up the invite and sticking it all down when you are happy with it.  You could use old magazines and cut out words to create the writing, like a ransom note.  This is our invite, which can then be emailed to all so you don't even have to print anything off, which is cost efficient and better for the environment.

I will post part 2 shortly, where I will show you how to use all these great drawings to create a fantastic Halloween party.

My new favourite illustrator - Andrew Bannecker

I have been coming across Andrew Bannecker's illustrations for a while now and chances are you have been too!  I love his style of illustration, slightly quirky with a real warmth and friendliness to them.  One of my favourites (although it is hard to narrow down) is this pirate playing the accordion, he has a touch of Frenchness about him!  Check out Andrew's Website here for an insight into his amazing work.

Dundelina

I discovered Dundelina, a Norwegian Clothing and accessory company thanks to the lovely blog  'Little Scandinavian'.  There was one shot that featured the back of a little girl sitting down, wearing baseball boots, a grey racer back vest with coral bow and stripy braces that made me instantly click on the website to find out more....here I found a gorgeous website with lots of lovely illustrations and a great concept for a clothing company.  They believe that every dress tells a story and each year releases a story written by  Norwegian author Roald Kaldestad that becomes the soul of the collection with scenes from the stories featuring as prints.  What a lovely idea?  Here at Dilly Foxtrot we encourage a creative imagination and believe in the power of stories and reading.  However, that aside the clothing is beautiful, easy to wear with a gorgeous colour palette.  There are some really sweet design aspects for instance all skirts are reversible, how cute is that?  I am so excited to have found this Brand as it is a real joy to look at and I think it is going to become a firm favourite.  You can follow them on Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Blogger so there really is no excuse!

milkPOP

Today I pinned a childrenswear tank top (or vest as we call them here in England) with a great graphic, so I decided to investigate further and discovered it was by lifestyle brand milkPOP.   If you click on the name it will take you to their website, which is really cool (so do!) and tells you all about the milkPOP's - yummy little creatures who live in the land of milk and Hunny.  They also inspire you to follow your dreams through art and imagination!  All the things we here at Dilly Foxtrot love and stand-by!   I love the diy and interchangeable aspects of the products as well as the unisex appeal.  Aside from the fashion/Product element, I really admire and respect this Label for their workshops with charities.   Read all about it here  (All Images & Rights Reserved milkPOP)

Corby Tindersticks Part 1

Corby Tindersticks is an illustration led label that produces clothing, toys and posters ethically here in the UK.  We love the quirky characters and the easy going styling as it appeals to both parent and child.  My children are firm fans!     It is really lovely and inspiring to see a different kind of toy / graphics becoming available, especially as it is British.  I feel all too often we overlook our homegrown talent and search elsewhere, yet, we have our own unique, eclectic style that should be embraced!

All the clothing is made from 100% Cotton Jersey and has hand-printed / appliqué  detailing, which gives each item a real original quality.  However, it is the extra detailing that makes this label stand out,  the quality, the labelling, the tags, the topstitching etc  Plus the SS13 Lookbook is full of children enjoying the summer sunshine; there is no overstyling, no pretentiousness and the garments are allowed to speak for themselves.  Check out more here and a big thank you to Louise (Corby Tindersticks Press Officer)

Petit Collage

I came across Petit Collage via Twitter, but I have definitely seen their prints before, infact I think I may have even featured their prints previously.  The Petit Collage studio is based in San Francisco  started back in 2006 and is all about good design.

I love the prints that have been printed onto sustainable wood.  It gives them a different feel to ordinary prints and adds a Mid-Century feel.  My favourite are the wooden mobiles seen below with the flowers, but there are more available such as birds, trees etc.  It is a website full of gorgeous treasures that will brighten up every home.  Have a look here www.petitcollage.com (All Images & Rights Reserved to Petit Collage)
